Paint.NET was originally a simple replacement for the Microsoft Paint program, but has evolved into a powerful editor with support for layers, blending, transparency, and plugins and I use as a powerful replacement for Adobe Photoshop.

GIMP or The GNU Image Manipulation Program, is a advanced graphics editor application. It is often used as a free and open source software replacement for Adobe Photoshop. The GIMP is actively maintained by a world spread group of volunteers.
