The German authorities are encouraging Internet users to immediately abandon the use of Internet Explorer for security reasons.
The Web browser from Microsoft is the most widespread in the world, but the German authorities consider that the Internet Explorer is vulnerable to attacks from hackers. The warning comes from the Bundesamt für Sicherheit in der Informationstechnik, which is a department in charge of overall IT security in Germany.
Vulnerability Triggers The Concern
Authorities advises citizens to use alternative browsers. A web browser is a computer application that is used to retrieve and display among other web pages from servers around the world.
The concern arised when Google last month, was attacked by Chinese criminals or authorities, where many e-mail accounts were hacked. Hackers also tried to break into approx. 30 companies.
Microsoft rejects the warning and finds that the risk of attacks against ordinary users is low. A spokesman for Microsoft in Germany, Thomas Baumgaertner, therefore states, that the German authorities over-react: “The attack was not directed against ordinary citizens or consumers. It is not a threat to the general user, and therefore we are not up hills on this warning.
New updates on the way it is version 6, 7 and 8 of Internet Explorer
Microsoft said the company already has started to solve problems and that new updates are coming. Windows systems; XP, Vista and Windows 7 are apparently is affected by the vulnerability.
Google Chrome and Mozilla Firefox are both good an better designed alternatives to Internet Explorer.

Microsoft’s successor to Windows Vista may 9th January 2009 test of all interested. The first public beta version is ready, said the message from Steve Ballmer on Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas in January when he kept his keynote speech.
Download is via Microsoft’s Windows 7 page (link), but Microsoft is expected to put a cap on the number of downloads. If you are a part of the Microsoft Developer Network, you can now download the beta OS.
In contrast to the beta version, which in October were shared out among a handful of other journalists, had the next public beta version include virtually all the features that the final version of Windows 7 given for the final launch.
The steering system is put for sale in October 2009. Preliminary tests have shown that Windows 7 makes lower demands on hardware than its predecessor Windows Vista which gave many an older hardware with many problems. Thus, there will be more computers that can run Windows 7 with an acceptable speed than Windows Vista, which is new. All other launches of new operating systems from Microsoft have put higher demands on power than its predecessor – it’s great to see that the trend is broken.

Slashdot | Microsoft’s Annual Report Reveals OSS Mistakes
“Microsoft’s most recent annual report suggests that the company is increasingly coming to grips with open source, yet also seems determined to perpetuate myths about open source that poorly serve it and its shareholders. Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has suggested before that ‘free software means no free soda’ for Microsoft employees; but this is perhaps the first time that Microsoft has managed to enshrine its ignorance in a public document. In the annual report, Microsoft makes two primary false claims about open source: 1) Open source companies don’t invest in research and development and instead largely free-ride on Microsoft’s patents and copyrights; and 2) Open source projects don’t innovate and instead mimic Microsoft’s products. Perhaps Microsoft has forgotten its own ‘innovative’ past copying of markets and technologies created by Apple and others. But at least Microsoft gets one thing right: ‘To the extent open source software gains increasing market acceptance, our sales, revenue and operating margins may decline.’”

Computerworld – Microsofts fede guldkalv mangler masser af folk
