Windows Vista and Symbolic Links

It seems like Microsoft learned yet another thing from the *nix world – symbolic links :)

A file system feature many have considered missing from NTFS, the symbolic file link (or as it’s called in UNIX, the soft link) finally arrives in Windows Vista. The Windows 2000 version of NTFS introduced symbolic directory links, called directory junctions, which allow you to create a directory that points at a different directory, but until the Windows Vista version, NTFS has only supported hard links for files.

Ubuntu Studio

Ubuntu StudioUbuntu has set up a page for the April release of the Ubuntu Studio. An ambitious project, it is described by Ubuntu as a ‘multimedia editing flavor of Ubuntu for the Linux audio, video, and graphic enthusiast or professional who is already familiar with the Ubuntu-Gnome environment.’ They’ve set up an Ubuntu Studios Wiki for the project, and their stated goal is to have a the package ready for use in the upcoming Ubuntu Feisty Fawn.

Fancy Free Photo Search Engine

yotophoto.comToday I stubled over this fancy photo search engine; yotophoto.com. It features a huge index with over quarter million free to use photos and images licensed under Creative Commons, Public Domain, GNU FDL. An excellent resource for web designers. The most fancy thing about the search engine is, that is has got a color search function, which means that it is possible to search for photos containing a specific color – very very fancy.

Here a search for light blue
